... я уже писала, что обожаю читать "письма в редакцию" от читателей Vanity Fair. Даже о тех статьях, которые сама не читала. В апрельском номере, среди прочего, были тексты о "Клане Сопрано" и коллекция современных фото членов бывших американских администраций, аж со времен Кеннеди и может раньше. Собрали тех, кто дотянул, и сделали групповые портреты. (Объективно - получилось неплохо). Теплая реакция "зала": "I found it fascinating that you featured portraits of The Sopranos cast and members of previous presidential administrations in the same issue. Would anyone like to guess which of the two groups was responsible for the most lying, cheating, deception, backbiting, and deaths? I believe the administrations win hands down" (Palm Desert, Ca.)
На обложке того номера сидел Сопрано в официозно-официальном прикиде, а к нему прильнула блондинка в минимуме одежды. На самом деле, она обернута в кусок ткани почти телесного цвета. От публики она отвернулась, но тут главное - ее ладная фигура на фоне темнокостюмного Сопрано. И при этом у Сопрано совершенно ничего не выражающее лицо. "Enough already with the covers of bored-looking, fully dressed men with nude or near-nude women posing seductively on or next to them. It is unsexy, unsophisticated, and smacks of disrespect (тут хочется из анекдота: Мне нравится ход ваших мыслей) - all things I never used to associate with Vanity Fair" (Riverside, Ca.) Не очень давно на обложке был 100%-одетый Том Форд в обществе двух разоблаченных разоблачившихся известных киноактрис - Скарлетт и Киры. Читатели.... они не смогли смолчать и тогда:)
Редакция в долгу не остается. Иногда авторы особо "полюбившихся" статей комментируют избранные письма, каются, как это только нам удалось написать такую статью. Нет, вру. Не каются они, но кое-что поясняют. У редакции есть небольшой подвальчик "Еще из переписки" - место, где можно врезать читателям.
В редакцию пришло письмо из Техаса - все про тот номер с Сопрано: "I was very upset to see a nude woman sitting on a man's lap at the checkout stand at my local grocery store," says Stacy Franks, of Fort Worth, Texas. And who can blame you? We don't understand how you folks conduct yourselves on checkout lines down in Fort Worth, but here in New York security would have hustled those two out the door in no time flat".

Пришел июньский Vanity Fair. Великолепные фото королевы Елизаветы, щелкала Энни Лейбовиц. (Очень люблю ее фотографию, особенно групповые портреты). Тут же небольшая заметка о том, как подбирали туалеты для королевы, на съемки было выделено всего полчаса, поэтому больших затей с переодеваниями позволить было нельзя.
Портреты чУдные. Интересно, снимают ли как-то в этом духе наших "сильных мира сего"? И где эти фото публикуют? Настоящий королевский портрет - не нужно никакой мазни а ля Глазунофф. И тут же - фото принцессы Елизаветы в 16 лет. Черно-белое. 1942 год.
О королевском гардеробе:
"In choosing a wardrobe for the shoot, Leibovitz and V.F.'s fashion and style director Michael Roberts found themselves in a thicket of centuries' worth of tradition. Working with the Queen's lady-in-waiting, Lady Susan Hussey, and her dresser, the no-nonsense Angela Kelly, they were presented with numerous beautiful robes, none of which could be worn for one reason or another. "She has the coronation robes, which was not an option for her to wear, says Roberts. "She had a very beautiful robe called the Order of the Thistle, which is a dark green cloak, very simple, but we couldnt wear that because it was the Scottish order, and it would be inappropriate. There was a lot of use of the word 'inappopriate'. There was a red robe, which is the Order of the British Empire, but she couldn't wear that one, as I was told, because she wears that every eight years and she wore it a year ago, so we'd have to wait another seven years. It felt like we did wait seven years sorting things out." The accessories added another layer of restrictions. "If she's wearing the Queen Mary tiara, she will not be wearing such and such a cloak. If she's wearing such and such a cloak, she will have a hat. If it's not on her head, it was suggested, it could be put on the velvet cushion by her side."
